The award will be bestowed posthumously to Peck, who died June 12 at the age of 87, during the Angelus Awards ceremony October 25 at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood, California. His widow, Veronique, will accept the award and address the young filmmakers. The Spirit of Angelus Award, presented for the first time in 2002 to Ricardo Montalban, is bestowed on a worthy individual of the entertainment industry whose body of work must be of surpassing quality and complement a faith lived with integrity and generosity. Similarly, the Angelus Awards Student Film Festival, created in 1996 by Family Theater Productions, Hollywood, honors college and graduate-level student films that uphold and communicate values, such as triumph of the human spirit, hope, dignity, diversity and peace. A total of $23,000 in prize money, including the $10,000 Patrick Peyton Award for Excellence in Filmmaking, will be given to winners during the October 25 screening and awards ceremony.
