 of Election 2004 activities, we accomplished the renovation and move into our "new" offices. Even though we have the same address, the space itself is completely new and different. 2004 was, indeed, a busy year--our biennial biennial, plant requiring two years to complete its life cycle, as distinguished from an annual or a perennial. In the first year a biennial usually produces a rosette of leaves (e.g., the cabbage) and a fleshy root, which acts as a food reserve over the winter.  convention in June and all of our election-related projects culminating on Election Day. An effort to get people to register is known as a voter registration drive. Centralized/compulsory vs.  efforts, election protection efforts and the post-election symposium. In addition, there were advocacy activities in civil liberties and campaign finance, and involvement regarding America in the world and global outreach Outreach is an effort by an organization or group to connect its ideas or practices to the efforts of other organizations, groups, specific audiences or the general public. .

With Election 2004 behind us, we continue the unfinished work An unfinished work is a creative work that has not been completed. Its creator might have chosen never to finish it, or have been prevented by circumstances outside of his or her control (including death).  to safeguard the vote (see the cover story, pp. 4-7). Also, this month, we introduce a new resource hot off the press, Citizens Building Communities: The ABCs of Public Dialogue. And, we continue our important advocacy efforts in a number of areas. You will read about these and other activities in the Education Fund and Advocacy sections of League Matters (pp. 14-16) and the Hill Bulletin (p. 13). In addition, below you will find brief updates from our Communications, Membership and Development departments.
