Greenplum Expands Asia Pacific Operations; Continues Momentum.

Industry Veteran Vinay Samuel Appointed General Manager of Asia Pacific Region

SAN MATEO, Calif. & SINGAPORE -- Greenplum, maker of the world's leading commercial open-source database for Business Intelligence (BI) and data warehousing, announced today that it has established a regional headquarters in Singapore and hired industry veteran Vinay Samuel as its General Manager for Asia Pacific Region.

Prior to Greenplum, Samuel was General Manager of Asia Pacific for Netezza, a US-based data warehousing appliance vendor. Samuel brings more than 15 years of experience in the information management and data warehousing industry to his role at Greenplum, having also served at NCR Teradata and GE Capital.

During his career, Samuel helped introduce many new data-driven technologies such as Analytical CRM, Six Sigma Data Quality, E-Channels, Enterprise Data Warehousing, and Business Process Management, into large banks, retailers, telcos and government customer across the Asia Pacific region. Samuel will be responsible for growing Greenplum's business throughout the Asia Pacific Region-- including Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia, Mainland China, Japan, India, Korea, and Indonesia.

Greenplum also appointed former senior Sun Microsystems executive, Bill Cook, as CEO, also announced today.

The company is gaining significant customer traction for its Sun Greenplum data warehouse appliance with important customer wins such as the Philippines' leading wireless carrier Smart Communications.
