PORTLAND, Ore. -- Bizgres Project Launches First BI Development Stack, Incorporates Open Source Reporting and ETL Technologies with Optimized Distribution of PostgreSQL for BI Workloads

Greenplum, JasperSoft and Kinetic Networks today released the core of the industry's first complete open source business intelligence (BI) development stack. Available through the Bizgres Project, the integrated technologies provide developers with an open source alternative to proprietary BI solutions. To underscore how easily data warehousing and analytics solutions can be built on Bizgres, the companies created the Bizgres Clickstream sample application.

Bizgres Clickstream provides detailed reporting of web site activity and use at the lowest cost of ownership for organizations of all sizes-- giving business users from the executive suite to the marketing department direct access to web-based data and analysis. Demonstrations of Bizgres Clickstream are available at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON), in the JasperSoft booth, #916.

The integrated solution combines open source extract-transform-load (ETL) technologies from Kinetic Networks; the most widely deployed open source operational reporting system; JasperReports, from JasperSoft; and the Bizgres data warehousing database based on PostgreSQL.

Launched in April 2005, Bizgres is a Greenplum-sponsored, community-supported project aimed at making PostgreSQL the industry's most robust, highest-performance open source platform for BI. One of the key features in this release of Bizgres is table partitioning support, a critical capability for large data warehousing applications.

The Bizgres Clickstream example application showcases the capabilities of the newly integrated components - automating the collection and processing of web server logs, populating a multi-dimensional warehouse schema, and delivering a set of out-of-the-box reports on web site activity.
