Green Valley Initiative Receives AQMD Clean Air Award.LOS ANGELES -- The South Coast Air Quality Management District The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), formed in 1976, is the air pollution agency responsible mainly for regulating stationary sources of air pollution for most of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside County, and all of Orange county. has recognized the Green Valley Initiative with a Clean Air Award for its ongoing promotion of good environmental stewardship in the Inland Empire.Green Valley Initiative was one of eight Clean Air Award recipients honored Oct. 2 at the 21st Annual Clean Air Awards luncheon held at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel The Biltmore Hotel is a hotel located in downtown Los Angeles, California. Built by John McEntee Bowman, it opened in 1923. At the time, it was the largest hotel west of Chicago and designed by architects Schultze and Weaver. It is now named the Millennium Biltmore. in Los Angeles. The award was issued in recognition of GVI's regional and collaborative programs to promote clean and green industry in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Other recipients included the Port of Long Beach and BP America for its Oil Tanker Shore Power Operation; Advanced Cleanup Technologies Inc. for its Advanced Maritime Emissions Control System; UPS for its Route Optimization System; City of Monrovia for its environmental accords; West Long Beach Association for its community involvement and environmental advocacy; John Zavalney, science expert with Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population. ; Susan LaCombe, a retired RN with the LAUSD LAUSD Los Angeles Unified School District (Los Angeles, CA) Nursing Services Asthma Program; and Metro Commute Services for public education on air quality issues. A special memorial award was presented to Dr. S. Roy Wilson, Riverside County Supervisor and Vice Chairman of the AQMD AQMD Air Quality Management District AQMD Action Quake Map Depot Governing Board, who passed away on Aug. 26, 2009. Wilson received the inaugural S. Roy Wilson Memorial Award for Leadership in Government. Rob S. McConnell, M.D., of the Keck School of Medicine at USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code. , received the Robert M. Zweig, M.D. Memorial Award for his work with childhood asthma.
