Religions in the Graeco-Roman world; v.169

Patching a tire rather than reinventing the wheel, a new reference on the two semantically related Greek religious terms updates established scholarship and adds to it. The first two parts are revised editions of C. Zijderveld's 1934 Telete: Bijdrage tot de kennis der religieuze terminologie in het Grieksch, and N. M. H. van der Berg's 1939 Aporreta - drumena - orgia: Bijdrage tot de kennis der religieuze terminologie in het Grieksch. Over 70 additions have been made to the citations of literary sources. A chapter on the loanword orgia in Latin has also been added by Schuddeboom (classics, Het Amsterdams Lyceum), who in the third section presents two new chapters setting out epigraphical evidence for each of the terms. False and dubious attestations are appended, as are occurrences of the proper name Telete in inscriptions. The scholarship and the volume should be good for another seven decades.
