BACKGROUND: The Greater Seattle Chapter of The Links, Incorporated
has been providing community service for 50 years. It
has grown from 11 members in 1955 to a current
              membership of 65.
Our mission, as set by The Links, Inc., a national
organization, is to make a positive impact on the
quality of life for African-Americans in the Greater
Seattle area, through community service. One of our
goals is to partner with other organizations and for the
last 50 years, the greater Seattle chapter has
collaborated with a number of different community
              organizations, corporations and foundations, including,
Starbucks, Washington Mutual, Boeing, the Komen
Foundation, and others to improve the lives of those in
              our community.
For example, for more than 10 years, we have partnered
with the Junior League of Seattle to provide more than
12,000 gift bags of personal items for sheltered mothers
on Mother's Day and over the past 20 years NORDSTROM has
provided significant support to the annual fundraising
event which provides the resources for our programs and
              scholarships.
The Greater Seattle Chapter of The Links, Inc. has
contributed $1 million to the United Negro College Fund
and also $1 million to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. In
addition we have given more than $875,000 locally, in
scholarships, awards and community projects. The Greater
Seattle Chapter of The Links, Inc. has given more than
125,000 hours in volunteer service to the community. A
large part of the chapter's success is dependent upon
the excellent support of our friends and corporate
              sponsors.
