Great pumpkin.


Last October, farmer Alan Eaton grew a jack-o-lantern carver's dream: the world's biggest pumpkin.

To grow the 656 kilogram (1,446 pound) whopper Whopper - WarGames , Eaton started with a seed from a jumbo pumpkin. Why? Parents pass traits, or inherited characteristics, like color and weight to their offspring. So Eaton's pumpkin seed had the potential to become colossal, says Jim Myers Jim Myers was the head football coach at Iowa State University in 1957. At Iowa State, he compiled a 4-5-1 record. He later coached at Texas A&M from 1958 to 1961. His record there stands at 12-24-4. , a plant breeder at Oregon State University Oregon State University, at Corvallis; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1858 as Corvallis College, opened 1865. In 1868 it was designated Oregon's land-grant agricultural college and was taken over completely by the state in 1885. .
