The feat was announced at the Spring 2004 Internet2 meeting in Arlington, Va. The team beat its previous record, set in November, by transmitting data from Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  to Geneva--about 6,800 miles--at an average speed of 6.25 gigabits per second, fast enough to download a DVD DVD: see digital versatile disc.
