Graphite lubrication.

To address lubricant Lubricant

A gas, liquid, or solid used to prevent contact of parts in relative motion, and thereby reduce friction and wear. In many machines, cooling by the lubricant is equally important.

has developed a maintenance-free lubricating solution. It can supply high temperature bearings that incorporate a unique dry graphite lubrication lubrication, introduction of a substance between the contact surfaces of moving parts to reduce friction and to dissipate heat. A lubricant may be oil, grease, graphite, or any substance—gas, liquid, semisolid, or solid—that permits free action of  technology--a solution that increases reliability and service life at extreme temperatures.

SKF's dry lubrication technology incorporates a graphite insert, replacing all other lubricants lubricants

preparations for the lubrication of passages to reduce frictional injury, e.g. oily preparations, including petroleum jelly, lanolin or water-soluble preparations such as methyl cellulose.
. Graphite is an excellent lubricant and is already used as an additive in high temperature applications. The graphite insert in SKF's VA228 bearing is in the shape of a crown, surrounding and separating the balls. It can handle temperatures between--150[degrees] and 350[degrees]C, at speeds of up to 100rpm. Another version, the VA208, has graphite segments between the balls rather than a complete crown. The surfaces of both bearings are treated with manganese manganese (măng`gənēs, măn`–) [Lat.,=magnet], metallic chemical element; symbol Mn; at. no. 25; at. wt. 54.938; m.p. about 1,244°C;; b.p. about 1,962°C;; sp. gr. 7.2 to 7.  phosphorate to prevent rust and provide a run-in surface, and both bearing types are completely maintenance free.
