The company installed the iGen3 press this summer and already produces more than 1 million impressions each month, including personalized direct-mail pieces for cellular phone providers and customized scratch-off promotional tickets for car dealerships. According to Ling, demand has grown so quickly that the company will be installing a second Xerox iGen3 press.

Offset Paperback Manufacturing Inc., a leading paperback book manufacturer in the United States, has added three Xerox DocuPrint(R) 1050 Continuous Feed digital printers to its line of two Xerox iGen3 presses, one Xerox DocuTech(R) Production Publisher with an in-line saddle-stitcher, and one Xerox Nuvera(TM) 120 Digital Production System in its Laflin, Pa., facility. The company is using Xerox digital products to quickly and profitably produce 100 million to 150 million digital black-and-white pages every month and millions of short-run books a year.

According to Joe Makarewicz, executive vice president, Offset Paperback Manufacturing, Xerox technology and an automated front-end workflow using Xerox FreeFlow(TM) software make the company more productive and efficient. He said yearly total digital production has grown from 20 million pages a few years ago to 1.5 billion pages today. Five billion digital pages are projected for 2008.

, Lumberton, N.J., recently purchased three Xerox Nuvera 120 Digital Production Systems, a Xerox iGen3 and a DocuPrint 1050 Continuous Feed system, doubling its digital printing capacity and replacing four pieces of competitive equipment. According to Ned Hood, president, Blaze Digital Printing Services, creating a common workflow with a Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP(R) print controller was paramount to the decision to add Xerox digital systems.

"Having DocuSP on all of our machines makes us more efficient. Job preparation is always the same, cross-training our operators is easy, and we can seamlessly move jobs among the different Xerox machines," said Hood.

The company has quickly grown volume on the new equipment, surpassing 1 million pages in a month on the iGen3 press, which is being used for color book covers, posters, brochures and direct-mail pieces. Each of the three Xerox Nuvera systems is producing more than 1.2 million pages a month of jobs including books, manuals and pharmaceutical forms. Blaze Digital Printing also is printing short-run books for bookstores, colleges and self-publishers on the DocuPrint 1050, its first continuous-feed printer. Hood said the DocuPrint 1050 was chosen for its speed and its superior ability to produce halftones, something competitive systems couldn't match.

More than 20 years ago, Masthof Press, Morgantown, Pa., began publishing a quarterly genealogical magazine. Soon after, the company saw demand from readers who wanted their own genealogical research professionally printed, and the company started producing short-run books on offset equipment. Today, Masthof has a thriving digital book publishing book publishing. The term publishing means, in the broadest sense, making something publicly known. Usually it refers to the issuing of printed materials, such as books, magazines, periodicals, and the like.  business using a recently installed Xerox Nuvera 120 Digital Production System.

Most of the work produced at Masthof is print-on-demand self-published books, many of which are sold in its bookstore. The company also prints textbooks, children's books, and out-of-print books, postcards and art prints.

According to Kathy Mast, digital production manager, Masthof Press, the company chose the Xerox Nuvera 120 for its excellent image quality, and the company already produces more than 1 million pages a month on the system.

"The Nuvera is proving it was worth the investment and is absolutely helping us grow our business," said Mast. The company installed a DocuColor 3535 Printer/Copier to print color book covers as well as posters, brochures and business cards.

Argentina

Aerolineas Argentinas has installed a combination of Xerox color and black-and-white digital systems to produce training manuals for technicians, pilots and flight attendants as well as boarding and customs forms for passengers. The equipment -- four Xerox 2101(TM) Copier/Printers, a DocuTech 6135 Production Publisher and a DocuColor 2045 Digital Color Press -- is located at the Jorge Newbery Jorge Alejandro Newbery (1875-1914), better known plainly as Jorge Newbery, was an Argentine pilot of fixed-wing aircraft.
