Grants available for sportfish habitat restoration.


The FishAmerica Foundation will be offering up to $800,000 in grants for marine and anadromous anadromous

 sportfish habitat restoration projects across the coastal United States and Great Lakes Basin The Great Lakes Basin consists of the Great Lakes and the surrounding lands of the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin in the United States, and the provinces of Ontario and Quebec in Canada, whose direct runoff and  area.

Grants will be awarded to projects that are community-based and restore marine, estuarine es·tu·a·rine  
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or found in an estuary.

2. Geology Formed or deposited in an estuary.

 and riparian habitats, including salt marshes, seagrass beds, mangrove mangrove, large tropical evergreen tree, genus Rhizophora, that grows on muddy tidal flats and along protected ocean shorelines. Mangroves are most abundant in tropical Asia, Africa, and the islands of the SW Pacific.  forests and freshwater habitats that are important to the viability of salmon, striped bass and other andromous fish (those that spawn in freshwater and migrate into saltwater).

The FishAmerica Foundation will accept grants proposals until Feb. 5. Awards up to $50,000 will be awarded in June. Previous grants have funded fish habitats in the Willapa Bay watershed in Washington, Galveston Bay in Texas and Lynnhaven River in Virginia.
