Police arrested eighteen members of Grandmothers for Peace Grandmothers for Peace (a.k.a. Grandmothers for Peace International) is an organization started by Barbara Wiedner (1928-2001) in May 1982 in Sacramento, California in the USA, after the mass media became "captivated by the image of a grandmother Barbard Wiedner risking jail  for disorderly conduct disorderly conduct

Conduct likely to lead to a disturbance of the public peace or that offends public decency. It has been held to include the use of obscene language in public, fighting in a public place, blocking public ways, and making threats.
 after they tried to enlist at the Times Square military recruiting center on October 17. The women sat down in front of the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Station and chanted, "We insist, we want to enlist."
