, Vail Resorts-Grand Teton Lodge Company, Moran, Wyo., has been honored as the Resort Executive of the Year for 2001 by hospitality and resort industry professionals convening at the 2002 Resort Management Conference in Colorado Springs. James is the 28th individual to be honored as Resort Executive of the Year.

The Resort Executive of the Year is awarded to the resort executive who has demonstrated superior management ability, a commitment to staff training and motivation, active participation and leadership in lodging industry association activities, support of legislation beneficial to the lodging industry and leadership within his or her community. The presentation of the award is one of the highlights of the annual Resort Management Conference.

As general manager of Grand Teton Lodge Company, James is responsible for three facilities inside Grand Teton National Park Grand Teton National Park (tētŏn`, tē`tŏn), 309,993 acres (125,503 hectares), NW Wyo.; est. 1929. The park, which includes Jackson Lake and part of Jackson Hole, embraces the most scenic portion of the glaciated, snow-covered Teton  and two just outside. In-park accommodations include the Jenny Lake Jenny Lake is located in Grand Teton National Park in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The lake was formed approximately 12,000 years ago by glaciers pushing rock debris which carved Cascade Canyon during the last glacial maximum, forming a terminal moraine which now impounds the lake.  Lodge, Jackson Lake Lodge Jackson Lake Lodge is located in Grand Teton National Park, in the U. S. state of Wyoming.[1] The lodge has 385 rooms, a restaurant, conference rooms, and offers numerous recreational opportunities.  and Colter Bay Village. Grand Teton Lodge Company operates the Snake River Lodge & Spa in Teton Village and the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club outside the park.

During James's tenure, Grand Teton Lodge Company has hosted numerous dignitaries such as President and Mrs. Clinton, President George H. Bush and Secretary of State Colin Powell. In 1989, United States Secretary of State James Baker and Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard Shevardnadze met at Jackson Lake Lodge for initial negotiations that eventually led to the end of the Cold War.

Highly respected by the National Park Service, James is active in the National Park Hospitality Association, has served on the board of directors for the American Hotel & Lodging Association for 10 years and is active with the Wyoming Restaurant & Lodging Association and the Wyoming Business Council The Wyoming Business Council functions as the economic development agency of the State of Wyoming. The mission of the Wyoming Business Council is to facilitate the growth of Wyoming's economy.  Steering Committee. In 1995 James served as Wyoming's representative to the White House Conference on Tourism and the following year he represented the state at the Western Summit on Tourism and Public Lands. In 1995 he was named Wyoming Travel Person of the Year.

James has served as a board member for the Grand Teton Natural History Association, the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, the Grand Teton National Park Foundation, the Rotary Club and the Grand Teton Music Festival Located in Jackson Hole at the gateway to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, the Grand Teton Music Festival offers seven weeks of classical music concerts each summer. The Festival Orchestra is the centerpiece of Grand Teton Music Festival's programming. .

Under James's leadership, the Grand Teton Lodge Company has developed an aggressive recycling program and a focus on environmental issues. The company annually recycles an average of 218,000 tons of materials.

A native of Missouri, James earned a bachelor's degree in business from Arizona State University Arizona State University, at Tempe; coeducational; opened 1886 as a normal school, became 1925 Tempe State Teachers College, renamed 1945 Arizona State College at Tempe. Its present name was adopted in 1958. . A selection committee comprised of leading resort management professionals selected James as Resort Executive of the Year.
