Grace of Arcadia: Becky Wahlstrom on the ongoing curiosity about the sexuality of her Joan of Arcadia character, Grace Polk.

Everybody's clamoring to know the story on Grace Polk of the award winning dramatic series Joan of Arcadia, which begins its second season on CBS this fail. Grace, Joan's lab partner and close friend, spurs her classmates' endless speculation about her sexuality with her tomboyish appearance and self-assured behavior. They're not the only ones who are anxious to know what's up with Grace--on Internet bulletin boards, fans energetically discuss competing theories about the character's elusive identity.

"Grace is rather close to me," says Becky Wahlstrom, the actress who portrays her on the show. "Some of the clothes I wear as Grace are my own clothes from high school. At the beginning of the season Grace wore these big, black, duct-taped boots--those are mine! That black leather jacket is mine too."

So what is the deal with Grace Polk? "I don't know if Grace even knows yet," says Wahlstrom--who, for the record, describes herself as "always exploring but pretty heterosexual at the moment." As for Grace, "I love the fact that she's a young woman searching for answers about that, among many other things."

In the new season, viewers will see more on the emerging relationship between Grace and Luke, Joan's younger brother. "We're exploring the chemistry between the two in an unusually interesting way," Wahlstroin says. "But I hope the show goes on long enough for us to get into a bunch of different angles."

Asked whether she'd like one of those angles to include a lesbian love interest, Wahlstrom replies, "Yeah, that'd be fun. Grace's secrets keep unraveling throughout each episode. We find out a little bit more about her each time."
