Grace Welsh Prize for Piano. (Competitions).


Applications are being accepted for the 20th annual competition for the Grace Welsh Prize for Piano, to be held in Chicago, May 14-18, 2002. Pianists of all nationalities born after May 30, 1977, and before May 30, 1984, are eligible. First prize will be a $5,000 cash scholarship award. Additional $3,000 scholarships will be given, at the judges' discretion, as second and/or other prizes. Deadline for applications is April 1, 2002. The number of participants will be limited to thirty.

Competitors must play a baroque baroque, in art and architecture
baroque (bərōk`), in art and architecture, a style developed in Europe, England, and the Americas during the 17th and early 18th cent.
 work, a major romantic work, an impressionist work and a work written since 1900, as well as one complete classical sonata. All works must be memorized.

The first-prize winner will be presented in a recital Recital - dBASE-like language and DBMS from Recital Corporation. Versions include Vax VMS.  and reception in Chicago's Washington Library Auditorium auditorium

 in May 2003. The winner also will be presented in a series of recitals at universities and concert sites around Chicago. Music directors, managers and presenters from the Midwest will attend the finals to choose pianists they wish to engage for appearances as soloists with their orchestras.
