Govt has resources to accommodate IDPs : Farooq.

ISLAMABAD, May 08, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- Chairman National Disaster Management Authority General (Retd) Farooq Ahmed Khan said on Friday that the government had all resources to accommodate and facilitate internally displaced people (IDPs) from Malakand Division. Talking to PTV, he said about 70,000 people were displaced Swat in the last few days, adding 8,000 had been registered at camps and rest were living with their relatives. We transport logistic that include edible items and tents with help of Red Crescent and other humanitarian organisation to camps set up at Mardan He said initially food and medical aid was being provided to IDPs and steps would be taken for education of their children soon. Farooq Ahmed said about 12,000 children had already been receiving education at 12 camps set up form IDPs from FATA and Swat. We are in contact with international humanitarian agencies and UN organizations. The WFP has assured to provide food on daily basis to 0.6 million displaced people, he said. He called on charitable organization to donate new clothes and deposit cash donations at accents of NDMA for early rehabilitation of IDPs.
