Governor announces to construct four dams in South Waziristan.

PESHAWAR , July 16, 2009 (Balochistan Times) -- The NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani paid a visit to South Waziristan Agencys headquarter Wana on Thursday and announced several uplift projects including construction of four dams in the agency. He addressed a representative Jirga of Ahmad Wazir Tribe and announced to launch a number of development projects, costing millions of rupees, to resolve certain problems, being faced by the tribes and ensure their rapid well being. The Governor particularly mentioned the vast prospects for development of agricultural sector and declared to construct four small dams in the Agency. The communication, he said, will also receive due priority and declared to provide sufficient financial resources for improvement and construction of roads network in the Agency. He also announced to upgrade the Wana Grid Station and establish a Custom checkpost at Angoor Adda. However, the Governor pointed out, maintenance of law and order is must to ensure accelerated development and urged the tribal elders and ulama to play their due role in this respect so as timely completion of the developmental projects could be made possible. On this occasion, the Governor also made it clear that no action is being taken against Mehsud tribes rather certain steps are underway against those elements who have not only been openly challenging the writ of the government but also have accepted the responsibility of terrorist activities in different parts of the country. Earlier, the Governor attended a briefing at Wana wherein the Political Agent of the Agency, Mr. Shahab Ali Shah briefed him about the law and order situation; prospects of economic development in different sectors and pace of progress on the ongoing developmental projects in the Agency.
