Government grant helps clean contaminated site.TVGA TVGA Tennessee Valley Gamers Association TVGA Top-extended VGA Consultants announced their participation in securing $1.9 million in state funding for the clean-up of environmental contamination at the former Roblin Steel site in the city of Dunkirk, N.Y. This award is in addition to $335,000 in state and federal grants previously obtained for the investigation and remedial design of the site. The Elma-based firm is responsible for preparing a successful Environmental Restoration Program grant application for the investigation of the site and has completed a site investigation/remedial alternatives report for the brownfield See greenfield. property. This funding will provide 90% of eligible costs for onsite remediation and up to 100% of eligible costs for off-site remedial activities. Abandoned and vacant for nearly two decades, the former Roblin Steel Site is considered one of the county's highest priority brownfield redevelopment sites. The county acquired the property through tax foreclosure in December of 2001, when a full on-site investigation revealed that the steel-making operations on the site had caused contamination of the soil, sediment and groundwater. Contaminants identified at the site include metals, polychlorinated biphenyl's and semi-volatile organic compounds from the burning of fossil fuels.
