"This extraordinary commitment from Koch Industries and its employees from around the world speaks eloquently to the generosity of Kansans. KCCI Chairman Frank Meyer, Herington, said that hundreds of Kansas companies and their employees have already responded to the events of September 11 with contributions of cash and other resources, blood drives, and support of community-based events.

"The outpouring of support over the past few days has been tremendous, in Kansas and across the country. We all continue to grieve for the thousands of victims and their families. One way we can pay a lasting tribute to those who were lost is to help fund educational opportunities for their children," Meyer said.

The number of surviving children is not yet available. The size of eventual financial awards from the fund will depend on the size of the fund, number of eligible participants, and their financial need. A similar funding effort is underway in other states, and Meyer said KCCI is working with national agencies to determine details of how and when financial awards will be made.

"I would also like to encourage everyone to continue supporting other organizations and funds dedicated to the relief effort," Meyer said, "including the American Red Cross American Red Cross: see Red Cross. , United Way, and the Salvation Army. Our support needs to be on-going and multifaceted during this time of national crisis."
