NEWPORT BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 2004

Today Gouvis Engineering Consulting Group, Inc. announced the expansion of its commercial division to include a greater number of commercial projects in a variety of industries and markets. A leader in structural engineering innovations for countless residential and light commercial projects, Gouvis is now applying that same cutting-edge technology to an expanding list of high-rises, entertainment properties, office complexes, parking structures and mix-use projects.

To handle this growth, Gouvis has named Danny S. Wong as Director, Commercial Division. Wong will oversee the growth and development of the firm's commercial work and his scope of responsibilities include not only the firm's existing commercial projects, but also the new dimension of strategic and tactical planning for future commercial work nationally and internationally.

Wong joins Gouvis with over 20 years in structural engineering and project management for schools, universities, laboratories, hotel properties, retail centers, residential high-rises, parking structures and office complexes. Most recently, as Associate Principal of Irvine-based BFL Owen & Associates (1998 to 2003), Wong oversaw major projects such as the University of California Irvine's research buildings -- his Natural Sciences Unit 1 building won the 2001 ACI Concrete Building Award, the six-story steel moment frame East Los Angeles Court House, countless schools, fire stations and complex parking structures.

From 1988 to 1998, serving as project engineer and manager, he completed the Los Angeles Metro Redline Eastside Extension, numerous tilt-up shopping center building designs, bridges, structural steel buildings and manufacturing facilities.

Based in Gouvis' Newport Beach, Calif., corporate headquarters, Wong commented on the challenge of his new position. "I'm eager to leverage Gouvis' already strong position as the dominant structural engineering firm in residential markets by expanding its commercial division in new markets to new clients as well as maximizing and strengthening its reputation and visibility to successful existing clients and markets."

Wong graduated from the University of Ottawa, Canada, earning a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1986. He earned a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, in 1988. He is a California Civil and Structural Engineer, a member of Structural Engineering Association Of Southern California and the Post-Tensioning Institute.
