Good shepherd.

I was delighted to read the October interview ("Mass in the balance") with Bishop Donald Trautman and to hear his views on the Eucharist and the Mass. It is unfortunate that his views seem to be in the minority. Most of the clergy seem to be more eager to return the laity to the pews rather than acknowledge that we are all part of the church and of Christ's Body.

While our roles maybe different, the head cannot say the eye is not important. I pray that Trautman will be successful in getting his points across to his fellow bishops and that we do not go back to the old ways. This old way was voiced by the pastor of my youth who one Sunday told the congregation, "You do the paying, and we will do the praying!"

May the Lord send us more shepherds who will lead and not rule us.
