A project of the Xavierian Missionaries in Burundi, Africa received the 2002 Right Livelihood Award The Right Livelihood Award, established in 1980 by Jakob von Uexkull, is presented annually in the Swedish Parliament building in Stockholm, usually on December 9, to honour those "working on practical and exemplary solutions to the most urgent challenges facing the world today". , also known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize Nobel Prize, award given for outstanding achievement in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, peace, or literature. The awards were established by the will of Alfred Nobel, who left a fund to provide annual prizes in the five areas listed above. ," at the Swedish Parliament in December.

Centre Jeunes Kamenge opened in 1991 as a place for young Tutsis and Hutus to develop friendship and respect through classes, job training, sports, and events.
