Good news about making gifts to CLF directly from your IRA!Have you considered making a charitable donation through your Individual Retirement Account (IRA)? The recent Emergency Economic Stabilization Act passed by Congress includes a two-year extension of the IRA rollover provision, first introduced in 2006. By taking advantage of this extension, you can generously donate gifts to CLF directly from your traditional and/or Roth IRA accounts. * The Pension Protection Act of 2006 allows taxpayers 70 1/2 years old and older to make tax-free transfers from IRAs to certain charitable organizations, including CLF. * The provision will be made retroactive to January I, 2007 and will apply to gifts made from that date through December 31, 2009. * Amounts transferred to CLF under these charitable IRA rollover rules will not be included in your income, but will count toward your minimum distribution requirement that applies once you reach 70 1/2. * Amounts transferred to CLF will be tax-free to you regardless of any percentage limitations that might otherwise apply to your charitable gifts for the year. This new law may be a good way of using any unneeded IRA funds to support CLF's critical efforts to protect New England's environment.
