the news release, Good Guys has closed its stores in Eugene and Tigard, leaving a CompUSA/Good Guys Megastore on Airport Way in Portland as Oregon's only remaining outlet.

The closures are part of a corporate restructuring move for Comp-USA, a computer products retailer that bought out Good Guys two years ago. Good Guys has struggled for several years, closing eight of its locations a year before the buyout.

CompUSA explained its 2003 purchase of Good Guys as a move to expand into consumer electronics.

This week's closures apparently are intended to further consolidate operations of the two companies. Sixteen locations were converted last month to CompUSA/Good Guys Megastores, featuring full lines of consumer electronics as well as computer products. Eight more - all in California - are scheduled to be converted by the end of the year, the company said.

In addition to the megastores, 35 CompUSA locations on the West Coast will continue to operate under their own names while expanding their home entertainment selections, and 30 Good Guys locations will operate as they have in the past.

The Eugene Good Guys closure is the second significant loss this summer for the Delta Oaks Shopping Center shopping center, a concentration of retail, service, and entertainment enterprises designed to serve the surrounding region.
