inmate appealed. The appeals court reversed and remanded, finding that
summary judgment was precluded by a genuine issue of material fact as to
whether the sheriff had the requisite knowledge of a substantial risk of
harm to inmates because of conditions at the jail. The female inmate was
sexually assaulted on more than one occasion by the jail administrator
and a jail officer. The administrator and officer were suspended sus·pend v. sus·pend·ed, sus·pend·ing, sus·pends
v.tr. 1. To bar for a period from a privilege, office, or position, usually as a punishment: suspend a student from school. and
