Golf northwest : McMahon qualifies.

KEVIN McMahon and his Huyton & Prescot PGA professional John Fisher are among the early qualifiers for the next stage of Europe's biggest pro-am competition, the Lombard Trophy. Top prize is a five-day golf trip to Portugal. McMahon won the club qualifying competition with a nett 62.

He and Fisher now advance to the regional final on May 27 at Hesketh Golf Club.

McMahon, 48, is an operating theatre technician from Huyton.

He is married with two children. He has been playing golf for 20 years and plays off a handicap of 15. His hobbies, apart from golf, include football - he is an Everton supporter
