Golf myth?AFTER READING YOUR AUGUST 2004 FEATURE "Getting the Corner Office," I'm disappointed that Ms. Gamble regrets not learning to play golf because she thinks it would have helped her close more deals. Maureen Jenkins concludes that the golf course is "where alliances can be formed." This is close to blasphemy blasphemy, in religion, words or actions that display irreverence toward or contempt for God or that which is held sacred. Blasphemy is regarded as an offense against the community to varying degrees, depending on the extent of the identification of a religion with , but I think the old bromide bromide, any of a group of compounds that contain bromine and a more electropositive element or radical. Bromides are formed by the reaction of bromine or a bromide with another substance; they are widely distributed in nature. that deals or alliances are made on the golf course is unadulterated un·a·dul·ter·at·ed adj. 1. Not mingled or diluted with extraneous matter; pure. See Synonyms at pure. 2. Out-and-out; utter: the unadulterated truth. bunk. This myth is perpetuated by insiders who justify sneaking out for a day of fun in the sun. I wish non-golfers would stop buying into this hogwash hog·wash n. 1. Worthless, false, or ridiculous speech or writing; nonsense. 2. Garbage fed to hogs; swill. hogwash Noun Informal nonsense Noun 1. . Ms. Gamble is a shining star, a non-golfer who did all right by sticking to business when others were goofing off in the name of forming alliances. Mark Van Patten Bowling Green, KY |
