This follow-up to Goleman's best-seller Emotional Intelligence has solid, meaty, real-world examples. The focus is leadership, primarily in organizations and corporations, both profit and nonprofit A corporation or an association that conducts business for the benefit of the general public without shareholders and without a profit motive.

Nonprofits are also called not-for-profit corporations. Nonprofit corporations are created according to state law.
. Using sound and well-articulated research, the authors argue that an organization is deeply affected by the emotional intelligence of its leaders. They identify leadership styles--from visionary to pacesetter to coach. Each style has strengths and weaknesses and each must be fine-tuned to meet the situation. The importance of executive and employee training is emphasized.

The "primal" leadership mentioned in the title refers to the necessity of ingraining in·grain
