Golden years sans Matisse.


Many thanks to Clive Barnes Clive Barnes (born May 13, 1927) in London, Oxford educated, chief Dance, Drama and Opera critic for the New York Post, is a colorful writer and broadcaster, whose career has been long and prolific.  for his thoughtful reflections on design in dance (see Attitudes, DANCE MAGAZINE, October 2003, page 134) and his generous comments on the Cincinnati Art Museum's 2002 exhibition, "The Golden Years Noun 1. golden years - the time of life after retirement from active work

Ballet company formed in Monte Carlo in 1932. The name derived from Sergey Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, which dissolved after his death in 1929. Under René Blum and Col. W.
, 1938-1944."

For the record, however, please allow me to correct two factual items: the collection of more than 300 designs donated to the Museum by the Fleischmann Foundation in memory of Julius Fleischmann does not include drawings by Henri Matisse or Dorothea Tanning, although it does include the work of many other wonderful artists associated with the ballet Russe de Monte Carlo during its great early years.

Founded in 1877 by the Women's Art Museum Association, the museum opened in 1886. Its collections contain examples spanning 3,000 years of artistic production. Works from Mesopotamia and medieval Europe are featured.
