The name derived from Sergey Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, which dissolved after his death in 1929. Under René Blum and Col. W. , 1938-1944." For the record, however, please allow me to correct two factual items: the collection of more than 300 designs donated to the Museum by the Fleischmann Foundation in memory of Julius Fleischmann does not include drawings by Henri Matisse or Dorothea Tanning, although it does include the work of many other wonderful artists associated with the ballet Russe de Monte Carlo during its great early years.
