God's role in human affairs. The power and integrity of THE NEW AMERICAN is rooted not only in its superb research but also in its Biblical perspective, its understanding of God's role in human affairs. R. Cort Kirkwood Kirkwood, city (1990 pop. 27,291), St. Louis co., E Mo., a suburb of St. Louis; inc. 1865. Primarily residential, it has some light manufacturing.'s November 27 article "ER Overload" presents a fascinating view of that role. Kirkwood's article states, "Nothing less than the survival of the American healthcare system, the finest in the world, is at stake." He cites "anchor babies," i.e., children of illegal aliens born in this country, as posing a substantial degree of that threat. How ironic that a healthcare system, which happens to serve as the state's sole agent for the legislated murder of the unborn, should find its survival threatened by living babies brought to term. Could it be that God is responding to the sins of our nation in the same way he responded to those of ancient Israel? Consider that among Israel's numerous sins, the one God cited repeatedly was the Israelites' willingness to "burn their sons and daughters in the fire," resulting in His chosen nation's conquest and displacement by foreign hordes HORDE - Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere (music group). Perhaps we need to assess the madness of open borders in time of war as reflecting the retraction of God's protective hand, His spent tolerance with a purportedly Christian nation's sanctioned idolatry, and His willingness to supplant its people for others (be they Mexican Catholic or Arab Moslem Moslem: see Muslim.) who bring their children to term. Perhaps we should consider the possibility that, despite all of the righteous appeals to leaders to honor their Bible-sworn oaths and to uphold Bible-shaped laws crafted by virtuous VIRTUOUS - Virtual Home UMTS on Satellite and visionary Founding Fathers (fostering presumptions that "we are delivered to do these abominations"), we have reached the limit of God's longsuffering, whereby He declares today what He declared to the prophet Jeremiah, "Pray not for this people, for I will not hear."
