Gobble, gobble toil and trouble.

In regards to your recent article "Talking Turkey about Biofuels" (In Brief November/December 2005), I noticed that our local southwest Ohio newspaper ran the following on December 29: "Governor Closes Plant Due to Smell. Springfield, Missouri Springfield is the third largest city in Missouri. On July 1, 2006, its estimated population was 150,797, of whom 150,790 lived in Greene County and 7 lived in Christian County[1]. It is the county seat of Greene County. : A foul-smelling plant that turns turkey byproducts into fuel oil was ordered closed by the governor Wednesday until the company finds a way to clear the air." The plant was cited numerous times last year by state environmental officials and agreed to improve its odor-control systems. But according to according to

Governor Matt Blunt Matthew Roy "Matt" Blunt (born November 20,1970) was elected Governor of Missouri on November 2, 2004. At the age of 33, this made him the second youngest person ever elected to that office after Kit Bond. He is a member of the Republican Party. , the smell continued.

I'm not at all sure there is anything about the above operation that is environmentally friendly enough (including the lifestyles of the turkeys) to make the finished product worthwhile.

It saddens me to read your article on biofuels made of turkey body parts. Even if you don't Even If You Don't is a single released by the band Ween in 2000 on Mushroom Records. Formats
Enhanced CD single
Includes the quicktime video of "Even If You Don't" directed by Matt Stone & Trey Parker of "South Park".
consider that the waste generated from factory farms is one of the top polluters in the country, that the grains being fed to turkeys could be consumed directly by humans or made into biofuels, and that factory farms use huge amounts of water, you have to consider the enormous suffering the animals endure from the moment they are born until the moment they are slaughtered.

That should be enough to not support using these animals for making biofuels. As an environmentalist environmentalist

a person with an interest and knowledge about the interaction of humans and animals with the environment.
, I do not want to cause suffering to anything, wild or domestic. Let's all join together for a cleaner and more peaceful world.
