Using his observations of ants on his father's farm in Nigeria as background, Eleyinafe, a minister, begins by reminding the reader of the scriptural origin of the title from Proverbs 6:6: "Go to the ant, you lazybones Lazybones popular song by Hoagy Carmichael (1933). In the opening chapter, entitled "Go to the Ant," the author sets up the premise on which the book rests. Eleyinafe says that the study of the ant "was part of God's plan for (him) and that he has to remember its industrious nature and apply this lesson in (his) own life so as not to become physically or spiritually lazy."
