GlobeSpan, Inc. (NASDAQ: GSPN) today announced that its multi-mode design is the first bus-powered USB ADSL solution to be certified for use of the Microsoft Windows(R) logo by the Microsoft Hardware Quality Lab (WHQL(TM)). By ensuring full hardware and software compatibility with Microsoft's Windows(R) 98 and 2000 Operating Systems, WHQL certification enables GlobeSpan to accelerate DSL deployment, allowing the company to provide its customers with a consumer installable plug-n-play customer premise equipment (CPE) solution. In turn, this certification benefits service providers by enabling them to eliminate installation hurdles by offering end-users a plug-n-play solution that they can install themselves.
"GlobeSpan once again demonstrates its technology leadership by being the first to obtain WHQL certification for a DSL USB modem," said Nizar Azzam, GlobeSpan's CPE Product Line Manager. "Nearly all PCs are shipping with at least one USB port, and service providers are looking to USB ADSL modems as the next step in low-cost, user-installable, plug-n-play solutions that will accelerate residential DSL deployment. This certification aids our customers in developing turn-key, plug-n-play ADSL modems that meet the industry's call for user-installable products."
This multi-mode ADSL USB reference design is based on GlobeSpan's software programmable Titanium(TM) ADSL chipset, which supports all ITU and ANSI ADSL standards, including G.992.1, G.992.2, ANSI T1.413 and ANSI TR-59. With a software upgrade, this reference design can be enhanced with new features and functionality as industry-standard specifications evolve.
GlobeSpan's WHQL certified multi-mode ADSL USB reference design is immediately available to equipment manufacturers. GlobeSpan's Titanium(TM) ADSL chipset, complete with software, is in volume production.
