Global warming.

Thank you for such a great magazine--topped only by the Bible in its truth and accuracy.

Many years ago, the eastern United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  was covered by an ice sheet that gouged out lakes and rivers--then it melted and receded. California and other parts of the West were covered with ice--then it melted and receded.

Two hundred years ago, in Alaska, there was an ice sheet that covered Glacier Bay Glacier Bay

Narrow inlet of the Pacific Ocean, southeastern Alaska coast, U.S. About 60 mi (97 km) long, it contains 16 active glaciers that descend from the St. Elias Mountains to the east and Fairweather Range to the west.
and the surrounding land where Gustav is now. That ice sheet melted and receded so much that now it is a tourist attraction Noun 1. tourist attraction - a characteristic that attracts tourists
attractive feature, magnet, attractor, attracter, attraction - a characteristic that provides pleasure and attracts; "flowers are an attractor for bees"
where boats can go up close to the glaciers. Where that ice sheet was, is now like a primeval forest with huge trees, lichen lichen (lī`kən), usually slow-growing organism of simple structure, composed of fungi (see Fungi) and photosynthetic green algae or cyanobacteria living together in a symbiotic relationship and resulting in a structure that resembles neither , and moss. As far as I know, when these vast ice sheets melted, there were no automobiles, power plants, or spray cans to cause the melting.

It was a natural occurrence that has been going on since the beginning of time.
