Global Needlestick Prevention Group Launches Revised Web Site; Emphasis on Safety Product Training and Education.

SOUTH JORDAN, Utah South Jordan is a city in Salt Lake County in the U.S. state of Utah. The population was 29,437 at the 2000 census. As of September 1, 2007, the population was estimated at 50,109 [1]. South Jordan has been one of the fastest-growing cities in Utah since the early 1990s.  -- ISIPS ISIPS Information Services Integrated Publishing System , the International Sharps Injury Prevention Society, has launched a revised Web site with sections focusing on product education and training.

The updated website, www.isips.org, is designed for ease of use by healthcare workers looking for information on sharps safety and blood exposure products. The newly revised website contains hundreds of links to information on sharps safety, needlestick prevention, HIV HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), either of two closely related retroviruses that invade T-helper lymphocytes and are responsible for AIDS. There are two types of HIV: HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1 is responsible for the vast majority of AIDS in the United States. , hepatitis, and bloodborne pathogen exposure prevention.

One section of the updated website, the Technology Licensing Center, www.isips.org/licensing_opportunities.html, was created to provide a clearinghouse for new safety technologies. The technologies listed in this section represent licensing and collaboration opportunities available for interested parties.

Another section of the website provides links to the free ISIPS Newsletter that is sent electronically to an ever-growing list of clinicians from around the world. The electronic newsletter provides comprehensive information on protecting healthcare workers against accidental needlesticks and gives information on news articles from around the world. The free e-mail newsletter is available to the healthcare workers and others by filling out the subscription form located on the ISIPS website.

One area of the renovated website that is receiving heavy web traffic is the ISIPS Sharps Injury Prevention Center, www.isips.org/prevention.html. This newly created education center provides information on the correct use of sharps safety products as well as a number of safety procedures and policies. "ISIPS is committed to providing education about the variety of products and services that are currently available to reduce the global health hazard of contaminated sharps injuries," said Ron Stoker, founder and executive director of ISIPS. "The Prevention Center, still in its infancy, will continue to grow into hundreds of presentations that are planned to assist healthcare facilities meet the regulatory requirements of providing a safe workplace for healthcare workers."

"ISIPS extends an invitation to medical and pharmaceutical device manufacturers of safety products from around the globe to join with us in providing a one-stop shop for healthcare workers who are looking for best-of-breed products to reduce sharps injuries," said Stoker. "We intend to help raise awareness of the sharps injury problem around the globe and provide solutions that will help minimize sharps injuries. Needlestick and other sharps injuries do not need to be 'part of the job' in healthcare."

The ISIPS website also contains a link for manufacturers that want to participate in the soon-to-be published reference book, The Compendium of Sharps Safety Technologies. This comprehensive reference book will be made available to clinicians, infection control managers, and healthcare facilities around the world. The Compendium is organized into more than 130 separate categories and is indexed to help healthcare workers rapidly find and begin evaluation of the precise safety products that they are looking for.
