The new M.A. degree in Global Communication is a two-year degree offered in partnership with the London School of Economics and Political Science London School of Economics and Political Science, at London, England; founded 1895, recognized as a school of the Univ. of London (see London, Univ. of) in 1900. .

Students who join this program will have the opportunity to spend their first year at the Annenberg School in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  and their second year at the LSE LSE - Language Sensitive Editor  in London.

'It's an unprecedented opportunity for student s to be able to study globalization globalization

Process by which the experience of everyday life, marked by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, is becoming standardized around the world. Factors that have contributed to globalization include increasingly sophisticated communications and transportation
in these major communication capitals," said Patricia Riley, director of Annenberg's School of Communication.

There are a myriad of courses available that focus on the phenomenon of globalization from a variety of perspectives. For example, there are classes that examine the economics of global communication strategies, emerging global communication and information technologies, international communication, virtual groups and organizations, and the cultural impact of a worldwide entertainment industry.

Students will meet their counterparts at the other campus through videoconferencing technology and e-based instructional sessions. Students can also participate in specialized internships in global media organizations, high-technology corporations, or institutions like the World Bank that have been developed specifically for this program.

The faculties of the School of Communication and the LSE have met for the last two years to finalize the details of the program and to kick off a series of annual conferences on the theme of "Managing the Global."

The goal is to develop joint research projects as well as the joint degree. The first conference at Annenberg drew participants from around the world.

In December, the second conference was hosted by the LSE in London and featured research presentations by faculty members of both schools -- as well as by industry and government experts. The presentations are being considered for inclusion in a book tentatively titled "Globalization Matters," edited by Riley and Roger Silverstone, chair of the Media Programme at the LSE.
