Global Citizenship initiative. (News and Information).


AAC&U is initiating a project on "Liberal Education and Global Citizenship Global Citizenship is both a moral and ethical disposition which might guide an individual or groups' understanding of the local and global contexts — and their relative responsibilities within different communities. : The Arts of Democracy." Funded by the Fund for the Improvement of Post-secondary Education, the project's goals are to analyze the impact global studies is having on undergraduate majors; to increase civic engagement and global awareness in students; to promote knowledge and debate about democracy; and to teach students cultural interdependence. A call for proposals for participation in the project will be available in November; deadline for submission is February 1, 2002. The project director is Caryn McTighe Musil, vice president for diversity, equity, and global initiatives. Further information is available at www.aacu-edu.org/global citizenship/index/cfm.
