Global Access selected to provide transmission services for STAR TV's Australian Open tennis broadcast; Company to provide fiber optic and satellite time to broadcast prestigious tennis tournament to over 220 million viewers in Asia Pacific region.

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 9, 1996--Global Access Telecommunications Services, Inc., a leading provider of worldwide satellite and fiber transmission and network services for the television and video industry, today announced that it has been selected to provide STAR TV with a turnkey package for the broadcast of the Australian Open

The Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments to be held each year.

Under the terms of the agreement, Global Access will provide fiber connection from the production site of the Australian Open, and a satellite uplink for STAR TV to downlink. STAR TV will broadcast the tournament to over 220 million viewers in the Asia Pacific region.

The Australian Open, which takes place January 15-28, 1996 in Flinders Park in Melbourne, is one of the world's premier annual tennis events. Global Access will be providing a fiber optic line from Melbourne to Sydney, which will in turn uplink from Sydney to the Intelsat 511 satellite at 180 degrees E, for downlink to STAR TV in Hong Kong Hong Kong (hŏng kŏng), Mandarin Xianggang, special administrative region of China, formerly a British crown colony (2005 est. pop. 6,899,000), land area 422 sq mi (1,092 sq km), adjacent to Guangdong prov. .
