"HD Radio will actively compete with satellite digital radio broadcasters XM and Sirius by offering a similar digital quality for music and voice, coupled with local programming," says High Fidelity Radio Editor Glenn Fleishman. "AM stations will particularly see a boost from HD Radio, which will provide analog FM-like sound; while FM stations will be able to broadcast several secondary digital channels, expanding their offerings as FM multicasting allows three, and potentially more, simultaneous distinct audio streams."
