The Wireless Messaging transfer protocol (WMtp(TM)) and the Wireless Messaging application programming interface (messaging) Messaging Application Programming Interface - (MAPI) A messaging architecture and a client interface component for applications such as electronic mail, scheduling, calendaring and document management.  (WMapi(TM)) resolve the deficiencies of the current networking protocol and create new access to emerging services such as two-way messaging and wireless email via the Internet.

"Designed to coexist with TNPP TNPP Telocator Network Paging Protocol (PCIA)  (Telocator Network Paging Protocol), WMtp surpasses the current protocol by offering both one-way and two-way functionality, increased capacity and congestion control," said Gary Smith, president of Glenayre's Wireless Messaging Group. "These expanded capabilities, combined with the new access afforded by WMapi, enable Glenayre's customers to develop highly customized wireless messaging services."

Andrei Godoroja, manager of Advanced Systems Development at Glenayre, said, ""WMtp is based on TCP/IP TCP/IP

WMtp allows paging service providers to upgrade their internal networks to the same technology level as the Internet. Once upgraded, WMapi then allows operators to accept selected Internet traffic for delivery to wireless devices."

Glenayre intends to make WMtp easily accessible throughout the industry and has already licensed the new protocol to Motorola for worldwide use. Other infrastructure manufacturers can license the protocol for a nominal initial documentation fee and an annual fee (for updates and technical support). WMtp will be available to Glenayre customers at no cost.
