Despite the lip service glam rock paid to style-as-substance with its silver lame space suits and sexual ambiguity, there's no denying that its icons communicated something essential; outsider adolescents worshiped classic Bowie with good reason. Judging from his debut CD, actor-rocker Cahoon knows the genre well--he certainly looks the part--but his performances stop short of the rabid insanity of Iggy Pop or Freddie Mercury's extravagant affectation af·fec·ta·tion

 posturing can't conceal the lack of jaw-dropping weirdness and a shortage of melodic ideas. Still, if you caught Cahoon onstage as Hedwig and left wanting more--here it is.
