Giving thanks.

Since it's that time of the year, I am going to give thanks, because I'm a thankful person and many times I forget to convey my gratitude.

I'm thankful that I'm not a family member of one of the bajillion attorneys who are attempting to sue Goodyear for misstating its earnings. We get calls, letters, taxes and e-mails from these lawyers trolling (1) Surfing, or browsing, the Web.

(2) Posting derogatory messages about sensitive subjects on newsgroups and chat rooms to bait users into responding.

(3) Hanging around in a chat room without saying anything, like a "peeping tom."

that I can't begin to understand. Goodyear's stock was in a free fall at the time, and I can't remember an earnings statement issued during that time that would make someone invest heavily in the company's stock. This is ambulance chasing on another level, and it's hard to live with people of this mentality.

I would like to give thanks that I'm not one of the "analysts" who are critical of companies for not making big enough cuts in their workforces. It wasn't long after Goodyear announced it had an agreement with the United Steelworkers United Steelworkers (USW)

historic labour union representing workers in steel, aluminum, and other metallurgical industries for much of the 20th century. In the U.S.
Union that the so-called experts said that closing its Huntsville, AL, plant, laying off nearly 1,000 people, and slashing salaried staff by 500 wasn't enough. One "expert" said "the closure of one plant would save only $75 million compared with an estimated $300 million from closing four plants." I'm also thankful, along with the some 3,000 Goodyear workers at the other three plants the analyst was referring to, that Goodyear management opted for the one plant closure plan. It seems that the analysts never mention the number of people employed, the families, the communities and all of the support employment affected in their recommendations to close manufacturing facilities. I'm sure none are aware of the concessions already made by the workforce.

Finally, I would like to give thanks to the four exhibitors at the recent Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo for high lighting the increasing problem of counterfeit parts. It seems that one exhibitor from India, one from South Korea and two from Taiwan were displaying counterfeited Tenneco Automotive elastomer elastomer (ĭlăs`təmər), substance having to some extent the elastic properties of natural rubber. The term is sometimes used technically to distinguish synthetic rubbers and rubberlike plastics from natural rubber.  products bearing two of its brand names, Clevite Elastomers and Harris brands. Tenneco was also an exhibitor at the show. Although this is no laughing matter No Laughing Matter is an episode of U.S. Acres from the series Garfield and Friends. It was the 74th episode produced for the series, although it is listed as the 71st episode on the Garfield and Friends DVD. It originally aired on October 21, 1989. , I'm usually thankful for items that make me chuckle, and this fit.
