Give up on the Dummies!

There are people who will never get you, says Dr. Gary S. Goodman, President of Customersatisfaction.com, sales, service & success coach, and best-selling author of 12 books and the audio program, "The Law of Large Numbers How To Make Success Inevitable," published by Nightingale-Conant. According to this popular keynote speaker and radio and TV commentator, the key is to identify these folks as bozos and then to proceed to a parallel universe, where you will be rightly acclaimed!

Face it. There are people who will never get you. You find them everywhere, from the stuck up high schooler who refused to date you because you had the wrong car, to the boss who wouldn?t give you a raise because he had never paid so much before, no matter how much more productive you were than your predecessors. Frankly, there are stupid people in the world, and every life gets its share. I don?t care if these fools got perfect scores on their SAT?s or got straight A?s at Harvard; they?re bozos. And you are bound to meet them in every crawl of life.

I relish stories about those who, for example, rejected the now famous ?Chicken Soup? series of books. They had every reason in the world to pass on this little book of inspirational stories.

They were too cute, too smarmy, too repetitious, too simple and homespun.

They weren?t practical, they didn?t say do these four or five things and you?ll succeed, they weren?t niched to a specific market.

I?m sure no upright editor ever copped to the truth: they just didn?t like or respect the contents. These books were for the average bloke, not the Yale English major.

But Emerson was right. To be great is to be misunderstood, especially by the gatekeepers of culture.

These servings of chicken soup sold and sold and sold. Did the editors that declined, and there were scores of them, did they ever admit to being utterly stupid, narrow, and wrong?

Of course, not.

They just kept using their awful instincts to green-light or to red-light projects.

Here?s the key: when you know you?re dealing with fools, or the chemistry says you?ll never find a home for yourself or your works here, don?t deny it.

Acknowledge it, and move on, knowing there are parallel universes in which you are going to be the biggest thing that ever came along!
