Giuliani: Music of Giuliani (Grande Overture; Rossiniana Nos. 1 and 2; Sonata Eroica; Sonata in C major) David Russell, guitar (Telarc CD-80525).

Giuliani: Music of Giuliani (Grande Overture; Rossiniana Nos. 1 and 2; Sonata Eroica; Sonata in C major) David Russell David Russell may refer to:
  • David Abel Russell (1780-1861), U.S. Representative from New York
  • David Allen Russell (1820-1864), United States Army officer
  • David J Russell (born 1954), English golfer
, guitar (Telarc CD-80525)

No, this is not music by Hillary Clinton's political foe; rather, it is music by Mauro Giuliani Mauro Giuliani (July 27, 1781 – May 8, 1828) was an Italian guitarist and composer, and is considered by many to be one of the leading guitar virtuosos of the 19th century.  (1781-1829), who 200 years ago was what we now rather loosely refer to as a "guitar legend"--back then they called him "the Paganini of the guitar." On this fine Telarc release, Giuliani's music is performed quite ably by guitarist David Russell. The opening piece on this CD, the Grande Overture, sounds to these ears as though it was modeled after Mozart; the next two pieces emulate Rossini, so yes, there are some pleasant melodies to be heard.  indicate nothing of the sort, and such a claim seems a bit strange for solo guitar recording. My advice would be to ignore the hype and simply enjoy the well recorded and well performed music--more than an hour's worth of gentle melodies to soothe but never bore the savage beast. --KWN
