Ginni Filaments enters Indian wipes market.

Indian textile manufacturer Ginni Filaments has developed personal hygiene and beauty care products for children and women. Last year, the company announced it was constructing a spunlace manufacturing plant in Gujarat, India in an investment valued at $10 million. While the majority of the facility's output will be exported, a portion of the spunlaced nonwovens will be converted into baby wipes, cleansing cloths and facial wipes for the Indian market.

Saket Jaipuria, chief executive officer of Ginni Filaments, said he believes the potential for converted products such as baby wipes, cleansing cloths and medical aids such as gauges and swabs to be tremendous in India. "Our research reveals that the market for personal care products is worth Rs 15,000 crore," he said, "and it is expected to double in the next three years, providing us with a great opportunity."

After test marketing the product range in Chandigarh, the company plans to make them available in eight cities by June 2006 and hopes for a nationwide launch by year end.

Ginni Filaments reportedly aims to achieve a 50% marketshare of the Indian wipes market within three years.
