GILWERN and Trevethin produced a clash to live up to its match-of-the-day billing.

Third-placed Gilwern moved up a spot at the expense of the defending champions courtesy of a gripping 4-2 victory.

It was going well for hosts Gilwern as goals from Adam Carrington and Matthew Williams gave them a 2-0 lead at the break.

Dwain Hunt pulled one back for the visitors, but Kieran Shelvin restored the two-goal cushion.

Then Shaun Williams crucially missed a penalty for Trevethin and Gilwern made the most of their let-off when Andrew McCarthy slotted home the fourth.

Williams made amends for his miss with a goal, but it was too little too late for Trevethin.

It was a day of high drama for leaders Pontypool Town on their trip to Usk Town.

Simon Pugh's goal gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at the break, only for Phil Samson to level in the second period.

Pugh grabbed his second to restore Pontypool's lead and seven minutes from time Usk had a golden opportunity to level things again when they were awarded a penalty.

But Joe Henry's effort was brilliantly saved by keeper Justin Silver as Pontypool held out for a crucial 2-1 victory.

At the other end of the table, bottom clubs Llanarth and Llanfoist clashed with the former running out 7-1 winners.
