: Holiday House, 1991. 27 pp. $17.95. A picture of life on a New England fishing island is painted for the reader through text and beautiful illustrations. In this book, Gail Gibbons takes the reader to a Northern Atlantic island to learn about life there through all four seasons. The story begins with the ferry approaching the mainland in the spring and ends with a depiction of winter island activities. Readers will learn about lobstering, including the tools, types of fishing boats, and various traps used in the industry. This is a wonderful peek into fishing island life. Gail Gibbons always does an incredible job with nonfiction for emergent readers. I use many of her books in my classroom, such as Apples, Spiders, Weather Words and What They Mean, St. Patrick's St. Patrick's or Saint Patrick's may refer to:
  • Saint Patrick's Day, named after the saint
  • St. Patrick's Purgatory, an ancient pilgrimage in Lough Derg, County Donegal, Ireland
Day, and The Planets. This text is just as useful and appealing for young readers as her other works. Ages 4-8. Reviewed by Michele King, Title I Reading, Karns City Area School District, Karns City, PA
