Getronics `Building Futures' of Next Generation Skating Champions

Getronics, one of the world's leading information technology and communications services companies, announced today it will sponsor the try-outs for Sweepers & Flower Presenters for the 2001 State Farm U.S. Figure Skating U.S. Figure Skating (USFS), officially called the United States Figure Skating Association or USFSA, is the national sport governing body for figure skating in the United States.  Championships (USFSC USFSC United States Figure Skating Championships ). The try-outs will be held on Saturday, October 28th from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. at The Skating Club of Boston The Skating Club of Boston is a figure skating club based in Boston, Massachusetts. Formed in 1911, it is one of the oldest skating clubs in the United States, predating the formation of the United States Figure Skating Association. . Almost 300 children have pre-registered.

Ice skaters eight to 13 years old can try out for the position of sweepers. A sweeper is a skater who inspects the ice and removes objects from the ice after each performance. Along with the 40 sweepers, 16 children ages 13-18 will be chosen to be flower presenters. They will present flowers to medalists at the awards ceremony. Candidates will be chosen according to according to

 skating ability, appearance and etiquette. All entrants must wear figure skates and be able to skate forwards, backwards and stop with demonstrated skill and quickness.

Getronics is also the Official Local Supporting Sponsor for the Championship Pairs Final, scheduled on January 19, 2001 at the FleetCenter. The skating competition begins on January 13 and continues through January 21. An estimated 115,000 spectators will attend the week-long event.

The Skating Club of Boston is located at 1240 Soldiers Field Road, Boston. Though it is too late to register in advance, walk-in candidates can audition from 4-5 p.m. on October 28. There is a $15 non-refundable registration fee. Participants who are chosen will be required to become members of the U.S. Figure Skating Association at a cost of $4.
