, DanceAbility and contact improvisation Contact improvisation (CI) is a dance technique in which points of physical contact provide the starting point for movement improvisation and exploration. Contact Improvisation is a form of dance improvisation and is one of the best-known and most characteristic forms of postmodern  will be among the styles presented during the fourth annual Eugene Dance Festival at the WOW Hall next weekend.

This year's theme is "Dance Into Diversity." Producer and founder Alito Alessi believes the festival, in which workshops play a dominant role, will provide "a weekend of dance, theater and music for all ages and all abilities in a cross-pollination celebration of Eugene dance communities."

Alessi, who heads the Joint Forces Dance Company, created the Eugene Dance Festival as part of his international efforts to integrate dance communities of people with varying abilities.

The lobby gallery space will feature dance-inspired photography and paintings in an exhibit titled "Dancing on the Walls."

Weekend passes are $25 to $50. Admission to individual events is $5 to $10 on a sliding scale slidĀ·ing scale

The lineup of workshops:

Saturday

10 a.m. - "The Teddy Bear's Picnic," a theater class for children 6 to 8; led by Lola Broomberg, director of the Boldness Institute and coordinator of Imagine That! Summer Adventures.

11 a.m. - "Scarier Than That," for children ages 9 to 11; participants can invent a scary story and then bring it to life with sound effects sound effects

2:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. - "TRUTHeatre" workshop, taught by Eliza Roaring Springs, who heads Encore Theatre; children (10 and up), adults and seniors will be taught ways to build connections across generations.

3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. - Multimedia artist Mari Livie will conduct clay workshops in the lobby.

4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Argentine tango

2:15 p.m. - Break dancing with Darryl Shaft, a member of Dance Theatre of Oregon.

3:45 p.m. to 4:45 - Multimedia artist Mari Livie will conduct clay workshops in the lobby.

3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. - Class on contact improvisation by Margo Van Ummersen, artistic director of Van Ummersen Dance Company, and Amy Impellizzerri, a full-time practitioner of contact improvisation.

5 p.m. to 7 p.m. - "OPEN Dance Jam" with live music.
